DStv choses a great variety of programs in order to meet the requirements of all the different tastes and cultures of our very large subscribers base.

The reality is that it would work out to be much more expensive for customers to choose their own channels. If you were able to choose your channels, your unique combination might not be a popular one so the cost would be spread over a handful of like-minded people and it would thus be more expensive. A lot more expensive, in fact. The only way we’re able to make our services affordable is to package channels in a way that suits groups of customers, so we can spread the costs.

DStv offers subscribers a wide range of excellent entertainment with the following genres: Entertainment, Movies, Lifestyle, Sport, Documentaries, Kids, Music, Religion, News & Commerce, Specialist, Audio.

Press the “TV GUIDE” button on your remote control. You can then find your schedules according to the genre of programming you are looking for. Here you will be able to access schedules for up to eight days in advance.

Unfortunately, in some instances channel suppliers will change the programme schedules on their channels. Due to the Dish magazine being printed months in advance, late programme changes can only be checked on the EPG. Every effort is made to ensure that the EPG is as accurate as possible and reflects all programme changes. Note that in the case of sports events there are cases where matches run over or are changed at the last minute.

Occasional inaccuracies in the TV Guide are caused by the following reasons:

Schedule information is sometimes not received in time for publication in the TV Guide (information must be submitted at least six weeks in advance for publication), Live sports coverage is subject to change without notice as an event can be cancelled/ postponed at the last minute due to bad weather, injuries, loss of satellite signal, or other problems. Scheduled programmes are replaced with special event programmes.

M-Net Stars, M-Net, M-Net Series, M-Net Movies, M-Net Movies 2, Universal Channel, National Geographic, Discovery Channel, Kids & Teens.

Programme repeats are an integral part of the multi-channel television environment. Channel providers internationally repeat movies and programmes to allow viewers to plan viewing time at their convenience. The purchasing of programme and movie rights is based on a model whereby programmes and movies are purchased for a certain number of screenings. This allows for the movies or programmes to be shown at different time slots to allow viewers a choice of when they would like to access the programming. Repeats in the case of a multi-channel environment allow subscribers not to miss out in instances where two or three interesting programmes are flighted at the same time. They also enable subscribers to plan their viewing time more effectively.

MultiChoice follows a world standard level of content and age restricted ratings based on accepted international standards. All decoders have the ability to block out different levels of content to ensure that home viewing is acceptable to the subscriber. Please follow the parental control guide to set this block on your decoder.

In line with international premium services MultiChoice Africa has a code of standards that a proposed channel must be able to fulfil.

M-Net movies are generally licensed for a 2-year period, with a repeat of 10 times per channel, i.e. M-Net, M-Net Movies and M-Net Movies 2. Themed broadcasts require special 2-month licences. Pre-recorded specials are generally licensed for 1 year. Direct feed channels, for example BBC Entertainment, Discovery, or National Geographic, follow international standards which offer a shorter license period with generally higher repeat rates.

Customers can use the channel grid to find their favourite channels. The channel grid displays a list of all available channels in the DStv bouquet and is a quick way to check what's showing on your favourite channel. It is also a great way to tune to a channel when you're not quite sure what number that channel is on. To display the channel grid, press any of the arrow keys on your remote control. (Please ensure that there is no other information on-screen, e.g. the i-plate, bouquet options etc, when you press the arrow keys). Use the arrow keys to move the highlights around the grid. As you move the highlight, you will notice that the information on the i-plate (at the bottom of the screen) updates to reflect the programming information on the selected channel. To tune to the selected channel, simply press 'OK'. To view extended programme information, press 'i'. To remove the channel grid, press 'Exit'. You can also set reminders from the channel grid. Press 'i' and then the arrow to highlight the next programme. You can press 'OK' once to set a normal banner reminder or press 'OK' twice to set an auto tune reminder.
