DStv’s unparalleled family entertainment packages allow subscribers flexibility in price and choice without compromising quality or variety.

MultiChoice Africa is committed to partnering with local entrepreneurs, governments and broadcasters in Africa, tailoring its operations to suit local needs while maintaining the highest levels of service and product quality.

MultiChoice Africa’s success grows its local partnerships, which have enabled the company to operate with an understanding of, and respect for, the many different cultures found on this diverse continent.

Our franchise in Zimbabwe

Starting as an independently owned business in the late 1980s, MultiChoice Zimbabwe became a franchise in 1995 and is regarded among the pioneers of pay television subscription management in Africa. Its vision to bring the various DStv bouquets to as wide a audience has lead the company to open offices in a number of cities across Zimbabwe.

A well-established installer base of over 40 businesses has been developed and these provide national cover for the services offered. Annual accreditation and ongoing training for these installers ensure high standards of service to customers. MultiChoice Zimbabwe also undertakes promotional activities and events for customers on a regular basis, helping promote face-to-face contact and stimulating interest in DStv. The company is a member of a key local marketing alliance involving 14 of the best-known names in Zimbabwe’s business sector.

Our Commitment

MultiChoice Africa will continue to lead the development of a vibrant and diverse media and television industry, keeping Zimbabwe at the forefront of the digital technology revolution.

In keeping with international trends, MultiChoice Africa launched high definition television (HDTV) on its digital platform in 2008. This is an exciting development in television and the African continent is standing shoulder to shoulder with the developed world in introducing these technologies to the African consumer.

MultiChoice Zimbabwe also believes it is important for corporate Africa to make a contribution to the continent’s development. The company has a team of 60 people across the country, most of them long-term employees with a suitable blend of experience and innovation. Training and motivation of staff continues to be a priority. In recent years, the company has consolidated its presence in Harare with a move to a new headquarters, in which previously disparate operations have been brought together, increasing efficiencies and improving internal communication. MultiChoice Zimbabwe has offices in Harare, Bulawayo and Mutare.

Education and access to information are key to the development and growth of a nation, and therefore we have invested in MultiChoice Resource Centres in 20 schools across the country. These centres provide input into education through the depth and breadth of DStv’s educational and documentary programming.

Students in the various schools are now able to better understand sophisticated concepts that are difficult to grasp without a visual experience. We will be making further investments into resource centres in schools across Zimbabwe in future.

Local Content

There is increasing demand across the continent for the localization of TV content. We are committed to creating and supporting African content, made by Africans, for Africans, reflecting Africa back on itself with programmes such as Big Brother Africa, Deal or No Deal, Idols and Studio 53. The phenomenal success of our local content initiatives has led to the launch of Africa Magic and Africa Magic Plus, both of which feature exclusively African content.

Sport is a critical component of the local content mix, and we are proud of the support and commitment SuperSport has given to the development and showcasing of African soccer, with support for Zambian, Kenyan, Nigerian and Angolan soccer.

In addition, M-Net, a premium content provider for DStv, has produced a number of new television series and is now moving towards more localized productions of drama and Tele-novelas in East, West and Southern Africa – making content more localized and relevant to audiences across Africa.

Social Responsibility

MultiChoice has made a long-term investment in supporting education in 25 Zimbabwean schools. Participant schools enjoy ongoing access to digital satellite television resources and programme content.
