05 May 2010DStv audiences across Kenya and across the continent will get so much more news as dynamic Kenyan news channel K24 launches on DStv channel 413.
Hot headlines, breaking news, live coverage….international news is a 24/7 story and this May, DStv audiences across Kenya and across the continent will get so much more news as dynamic Kenyan news channel K24 launches on DStv channel 413.
The innovative channel will be available to DStv Premium, Compact, Family and Access subscribers, and will provide a unique new perspective on the news stories of the day. Based in Nairobi, the channel is a combination of local Kenyan news, regional East African programming, plus news from around the continent and around the globe.
Presenters on the channel include news anchor Jane Ngoiri who anchors Mchipuko wa Habari, the Swahili bulletin. Audiences can also tune in to see the flagship show Capital Talk with veteran newsman Jeff Koinange, plus reporters Apollo Kamau (Senior Political Reporter), Byran Argin (Sports Editor and Anchor) and Chege Kariuki (Business Editor and Anchor) among others.
Speaking on the day that the channel debuted on DStv, MultiChoice Kenya General Manager Stephen Isaboke was enthusiastic about the new channel launch.
“We are delighted and proud to say that K24 will now be offered direct to home via satellite on the DStv platform. This truly Kenyan service, manned by a talented team of Kenyan media professionals, will now be available across the continent, exporting news and information direct from Kenya to the rest of the continent. Now that’s what I would call a good news story.”
K24 joins other African news and entertainment channels which are available on the DStv service, either on a regionalized or continental basis, including the counterpart Nigerian Network News channel (NN24) will launched alongside the K24 service in May for DStv audiences in the West African country. Other Kenyan channels available on DStv include Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC - DStv channel 137), Nation TV (NTV – DStv channel 138) and Kenyan Television Network (KTN – DStv channel 139).
The announcement that K24 will join the DStv service happens as CNN and MultiChoice gear up for the CNN MultiChoice African Journalist Awards 2010, to be held at the end of May in Kampala, Uganda.
Last year, Kenyan journalist John Allan Namu was named the overall African Journalist of the Year Award winner. This year’s awards will also include 7 finalists from Kenya – Zipporah Karani (KTN), Charles Kariuki (World Vision Kenya for NTV), Kassim Mohamed (Star FM), Francis Mugo Mwangi (freelance for NTV), Boniface Mwangi (freelance for The Star), Kaara Wainaina (NTV) and Roseline Wangui (NTV).
